Sculptures in the Garden Announces 2026 Selection Panel

Amber Norton-Knight June 11, 2026

The Sculptures in the Garden Committee is delighted to announce the members of the 2026 Selection Panel, a distinguished group of artists, curators, architects, and community leaders who will play a vital role in shaping this year's exhibition and selecting the major prize winners.

Now entering its 16th year, Sculptures in the Garden has established itself as one of regional Australia's leading outdoor sculpture exhibitions, attracting artists and visitors from across the country. At the heart of the event is a commitment to supporting Australian sculptors while building a lasting public art legacy for the Mid-Western Region.

The role of the Selection Panel is central to the exhibition's success and reputation. Each year, the panel is responsible for selecting the recipients of the major acquisition prizes, recognising outstanding contemporary sculpture and helping to grow the region's public art collection through a series of significant acquisitions.

In 2026, we are honoured to welcome a panel that combines national leadership, artistic excellence, and strong ties to the region.

Leading this year's panel is Bradley Hammond, Director of Orange Regional Gallery. One of regional Australia's most respected curatorial voices, Hammond has spent decades championing artists and fostering meaningful connections between contemporary art and local communities.

Joining Hammond on the panel are:

Stephen King – internationally acclaimed sculptor whose work has been exhibited extensively throughout Australia and overseas.

Cameron Anderson – award-winning architect and Director of Cameron Anderson Architects, recognised for his thoughtful approach to design, landscape, and place.

Sam Paine – artist and journalist with a long-standing connection to the regional arts community and a passion for supporting contemporary creative practice.

Rachel Gill – Director Community at Mid-Western Regional Council, bringing valuable insight into community development, cultural initiatives, and the role of public art in regional life.

Together, the 2026 Selection Panel brings a wealth of experience across sculpture, architecture, curatorial practice, journalism, and community engagement, ensuring another exceptional year for Sculptures in the Garden.

The winners of the 2026 prize categories, including four major acquisitive awards totalling $57,000, will be announced during the exhibition's Opening Night celebrations on Friday 9 October 2026 at Rosby Wines, Mudgee.

Artist submissions for Sculptures in the Garden 2026 are now open and will close on Friday 31 July 2026.
