As we prepare to welcome visitors and artists back to Rosby for the 15th annual Sculptures in the Garden exhibition, we are proud to announce the esteemed members of the 2025 selection committee.
Each year, Sculptures in the Garden invites a small group of highly respected figures from the arts, architecture and design communities to judge the exhibition’s major acquisition prizes. The role of this committee is central to the event’s success and reputation, helping to recognise outstanding works that go on to become part of the Mid-Western Region’s growing public art collection.
This year, we are honoured to welcome a panel that combines national leadership, artistic excellence, and strong ties to the region:
David Handley AM – Founding CEO and Artistic Director, Sculpture by the Sea
David Handley is a visionary in the field of public art and placemaking. As the founder of Sculpture by the Sea, he brings decades of experience curating large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibitions and supporting artists at every stage of their careers. His return to SIG underscores the event’s significance within Australia’s broader sculpture landscape.
Susan Rothwell AM – Architect and Contemporary Artist
With a distinguished career that spans both architecture and fine art, Susan Rothwell brings a unique dual perspective to the judging panel. Her insight into spatial design, visual form and materiality provides invaluable depth when assessing works intended for outdoor environments.
Sam Paine – Regional Journalist and Artist
Sam Paine is a practicing artist, illustrator, and respected regional journalist. His experience working across media and his passion for storytelling and community engagement allow him to appreciate the ways sculpture can resonate with audiences and place.
Cameron Anderson – Architect, Anderson Architecture Mudgee
Cameron Anderson is a practicing architect based in Mudgee with deep ties to the local landscape and community. His design background and regional insight make him a valuable contributor to discussions around the siting, scale and impact of outdoor sculpture.
Together, this year’s committee reflects the values at the heart of Sculptures in the Garden: a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, community, and connection to place.
The winners of the 2025 prizes, including four major acquisitive awards totalling $55,000, will be announced on Opening Night, Saturday 11 October 2025.
Artist submissions are open now and will close on Friday 8 August 2025.
