SCULPTURES IN THE GARDEN, MUDGEE

Sculptures in the Garden will return in 2024 as one of the largest sculpture exhibitions in rural NSW. SIG is a not for profit outdoor exhibition that gives local, regional and interstate artists an avenue to exhibit their works in beautiful rural surroundings at the Rosby cellar door, gallery and vineyard in Mudgee NSW.

Prize winners for 2023

• $30,000 SIG and MWRC prize – Keeper by Ingrid Morley (Jenolan)

• $10,000 Friends of SIG prize – The Angel of Mudgee by Edward Willson (Bermagui)

• $5,000 Moolarben prize – Figure & Shadow by Peter Tilley (Hamilton Sth) 

• $5,000 Buchanan Acquisition Prize – Liar Lyre by Robert Neeson (Leppington)

• $1,000 CAA Artistic Merit Prize – Building Blocks by Michael Ferris (Mudgee) 

• $300 Sculptor Society Prize – Make ART not war by Scott Ingram (Sydney)

• $500 People’s Choice award went to Grazing by Matt Hill (Rye, VIC)

 
PRIZES & AWARDS

  • $30,000 Sculptures in the Garden and Mid-Western Regional Council Acquisition Prize. The acquired work will be part of the Mid Western Regional Council public art collection

  • $10,000 Friends of Sculptures in the Garden Acquisition Prize. The winning acquisition will be part of the Mid-Western Regional Council’s public art collection

  • $10,000 Fernside Pastoral Company Acquisition Prize. The winning acquisition will be part of the Mid-Western Regional Council’s public art collection

  • $5,000 Buchanan Acquisition Prize for Artistic Merit. The winning acquisition will become part of the Mudgee Hospital Public Art Collection

  • $1,000 Cameron Anderson Architects Artistic Merit Prize for small outdoor sculpture (non-acquisition prize)

  • $500 People's Choice Award (non-acquisition prize)

  • $300 The Sculptors Society Sensory Sculpture Prize (non-acquisition prize)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Over 5,000 visitors are expected to visit Sculptures in the Garden 2024

  • In 2023, over 61% of works from the exhibition were sold

  • Over $15,000 was raised for the local branch of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT in 2023

  • The 2023 show earned over $350,000 for our community of artists

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE FOR EXHIBITING ARTISTS

The Sculptures in the Garden Committee have established a ‘Travel Fund’ with the intention of helping a number of successful artists with financial assistance towards travel and installation costs at Sculptures in the Garden 2024, Mudgee NSW. Consideration will be given to, scale and complexity of artwork, cost of transport and installation and the location of Artwork / Artist. Applications close on Thursday 12th September.


SELECTION PANEL FOR WORKS & PRIZES

The selection committee will consider all entries and its decision on works accepted will be final. Artists both successful and unsuccessful in their entry will be notified before September 2024. All works must be professionally finished for public exhibition; be the original work of the submitting artist; and not previously entered into other exhibitions. Artworks must be priced to sell. Any work that is not fit for exhibition will be knocked back on viewing.

An independent selection panel will select the acquisition prize winners. Judges will be named on the Sculptures in the Garden website prior to the opening of the exhibition. Any decision by the selection panel is final.
